The Bridgton Community Band, celebrating its 80th birthday in 2018, is one of the few remaining community bands in the State. For six or seven weeks during the summer, volunteer musicians principally from the Bridgton area, but others from various parts of the country, present a lively, FREE concert to locals and visitors alike. The members, dressed in their new red Polo shirt uniforms, play a wide variety of music from rousing marches to classical pieces. The Band has had only seven directors; Dick Albert held office the longest for twenty-eight years and Natasha Proctor for eighteen years.

At the end of the 2017 season, Steven Sweetsir (who plays French horn with us) was selected to fill the conductor's position for 2018 and beyond. Steven's bio information is found here.

Many people from the local area faithfully attend each week, while visitors to our area are excited to experience this unique activity. Audiences can range from children to seniors and number up to 150 or more.

This summer, the Bridgton Community Band will also participate in the annual R.B. Hall Day in Waterville on June 30th and in parades at Bridgton's 4th of July celebration, at Casco Days and the Fryeburg Fair. Rehersals begin each year on the first Monday of May and continue through mid-August at Stevens Brook Elementary School at 7 p.m. There is no age criteria for membership. Interested musicians should just bring your instrument to a practice, stop by at any of our concerts, or contact us via e-mail to If you have visitors who are musically inclined, they are welcome to join in with us.
